Rae Ashley Gray was born in Chicago, Illinois. She started acting at the age of four to follow in the footsteps of her brother. She ended up booking her very first audition for an Auto Safety Counsel, and knew that acting was a career she wanted to pursue. Growing up in Chicago, Rae was interested in a variety of things. The same year that she began acting, she started playing baseball and fell in love with it. She also had a keen interest in academics, specifically English and Spanish. She had to balance all of her interests with acting as well. From the ages of 4 to 13, Rae was constantly auditioning and booked over a hundred voice overs. At the age of five, just a year after she began acting, she booked her first movie, One Small Step (1999). Two years later, she booked the role of Jean Darling Flipping the Whale (2001) directed by sean guinan. She also appeared in the NYU Thesis Film, Betty and the Ocean as well as the film, The Need, by Studio 22 productions. At the age of 14, she appeared in the movie Drunkboat (2007) directed by Bob Meyer, starring John Malkovich and John Goodman. When she was 17, she was cast as the lead role, Tammy, in "The Dark One," which shot in Indianapolis in early 2010. That summer, just after turning 18, she was featured in a Columbia College film, "The Shadow," starring Adria Dawn. Though she loves to do films and would like to broaden her resume in that area, she has had an extravagant career in theater. In 2000, she appeared at the Goodman Theater in A Christmas Carol, as well as in 2003. That same year, Rae appeared in Steppenwolf Theater's Wedding Band, alongside Tony award winner Deanna Dunnagan. That summer she had one of the most amazing experiences of her life. She worked along side Audra McDonald, Patti LuPone, and Micheal Cerveris in Sunday in the Park with George at Ravinia Festival, a production directed by Lonny Price. She followed that with two shows at the Marriott Lincolnshire Theater as well as a production of Meet Me in St. Louis at Drury Lane Oakbrook, which was so successful that it traveled to New York and played at the Gateway Playhouse. In late 2009, Rae appeared at the Gift Theatre in "Summer People," where she received great reviews in the role of "Laura." In the Summer/Fall of 2010, Rae had a lead role, Claire, in "Jailbait" at Profiles Theater. In addition to it being a hit production that is remounting early 2011, Rae received rave reviews. She will be portraying Lauren in Victory Garden's upcoming production of "Circle Mirror Transformation" by Annie Baker. Rae is also interested in scriptwriting as well as being a novelist. She enjoys just about every sport but focuses on fast pitch softball. She is a freshman at the University of Chicago, and knows that she will give whatever it takes to be doing what she loves for the rest of her life: acting professionally.
