If you are a Brony, you will love it! (Spoiler-Free)
My Little Pony: The Movie is a movie based on the show, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, based on the toys from Hasbro. The Movie is about the Mane 6 traveling outside of Equestria to meet new friends along the way while the villains are wreaking havoc across Ponyville.

The film is hands down the best animated movie of 2017. It is everything I wanted the movie to be. If you have not seen the film, go watch it, especially if you are a Brony.

First off, the visuals and the animation for this movie is beautiful, especially the fact that we don't get a lot of 2D animated movies on the big screen; the buttery smooth animation reminds me of a Don Bluth Film. The movie also shows what 2D animation software can actually do. Yes, the software they use for the film is Toon Boom Harmony, the same animation software used for The Simpsons and Spongebob Sqarepants: Sponge Out of Water. If you ask me, they should use Toon Boom for their show from now on.

The story may not be the best I've seen from an animated movie; it could be cliché at times, but for what it is, it was very good. I found the Mane 6 to be just as likable in the movie as they are in the show; the voice actors for the show as always, doing great. I also found the supporting characters and villains to be likable as well, especially Tempest Shadow and Captain Celano.

The Songs for this movie is awesome; it's catchy, inspirational, and all around fun! Of course, it's all poppy, bubble gummy crap, but what do you expect? This is My Little Pony we're talking about! Not to mention that Kristen Chenoweth (Voice of Princess Skystar), Taye Diggs (Voice of Capper), Zoe Saldana (Voice of Captain Celano), and Emily Blunt (Voice of Tempest Shadow) did great with the songs they are singing. Plus Sia's song fits the movie very well, and reminds me of Shakira's Try Everything from Zootopia. (Sia is one of the writers for Try Everything, so it makes sense)

The movie hits the nail on the head for its humor; there are a lot of belly laughs that I have for the movie's humor, especially from Pinkie Pie, and new characters from the movie like Grubber, Capper, and The Storm King, and some funny moments from Queen Novo.

Here are the pros and cons for the movie:

Pros: Visual/Animation, Songs, Story, Humor, and The Characters

Cons: I got nothing (The movie is in no way perfect, then again, there is no such thing as a perfect film)

My Little Pony: The Movie is absolutely fantastic; I can't wait to be immersed into their world again. If you are a Brony, you will love it!

My Recommendation: Go out and see the movie now!
A huge deception
This movie is bad. Honestly I'm a fan, we watched it with a cousin and my brother, I offered the tickets.

It was depressing, not a happy movie. All about destruction of friendship; false hopes; sad music; NWOish stuff about this creepy monkey destroying the world.

Betrayal, sacrifices and uselessness of alicorn princesses. Sia's song was a nail in the coffin of this uncanny screenplay, musical drama.

The writing was so empty at the point every musical moment is just here to ensure the film will fill 1:30 of screenplay.

Pinkie Pie is trying to be funny. Who wrote her lines? I want to know who managed to fail at giving these ponies some character, some presence!

I'm giving it the best score I can, in binary.
Not bad but not great
Having already seen the abundance of clips and screenshots, not to mention the trailer, I wasn't entirely excited for this movie. Upon actually seeing it, it did surprise me at times like with the argument Twilight and her friends got into as well as the Trojan Horse parody scene. The songs weren't particularly great, though I had listened to those from the soundtrack around the time it was released. The villains weren't particularly interesting though it wasn't really surprising that Tempest is basically reformed by the end of the film given that the show reforms villains all the time and the whole "save a bad guy" motif has already been done before. Wasn't really a fan of the sort-of "haze" over the eyes as they end up looking darker than the rest of the body. The song at the beginning was probably among the worst as it was just a parody of "We Got the Beat" by the Go Gos. Props if you end up enjoying this movie more than I did but I don't think I'd have different thoughts had I not gone beyond seeing the trailers that were released. Kind of a let down given all the hype and merchandise that's already out now.
A movie worth seeing(Disney grade)
// compared to the show? - it's a notch higher!

*This was really well one, far more than I thought it'd be a fan of the TV Show, I figured it'd be hard for them to make a movie that captures the mane 6 the setting without going crazy into details but they did it. And mind you they made this movie during season 5(season 7 current) so not every pony played a key role.

// Anything new compared to the show? - Yes!

*And not to mention they added a whole perspective to the series as a whole. While it did't go crazy in-depth with plot. It nevertheless was a wonderful movie and the care they took for the characters shows.

// replay value - yes

*I'd be back for another movie when it shall ever come to be we can just hope.As anyone who likes cartoon, or animation in general this movie hits home in many ways like sticking to clichés that most animated series go to. But it didn't feel to run of the mill.

// Something that took you away - The Music :)

*Lastly to note the Music! is Outstanding! Something that took me away, even if the animation just felt like the show but amplified the music sure didn't! I hope you see this show, if nothing else to just see something different.
Great experience.
A really great movie just the ending was a little rush for me but everything else was really good. Oh yeah, the noses from the ponies were a little small and circular for my taste. I really love the songs from the movie sang by Sia and another artist can't remember his name. I expect the next movie to be about spike origin, why he can fly yet and for him to do something.
Eh, it was okay I guess.
I don't consider myself a brony, even though I've seen some episodes of Friendship Is Magic. I haven't seen every episode, but I've seen enough from each season that I have a good idea of what the show is all about. I personally don't like the first few seasons but the series does get better as it goes along. Overall, it's fine. It's a fine show. It's not the most amazing thing ever like some would lead you to believe, and it's not cancer like others make it out to be. Considering it's a show aimed at 5-year-old girls, this is the best show aimed specifically at that demographic I've ever seen. The strongest aspects of the show are it's good voice acting, relatively complex plots for a little kids show, and character arcs that span multiple episodes. You can tell a lot of effort was put into it, the creators have respect for their audience, and it doesn't feel cynically pandering at all.

For this reason, I decided to give the first theatrical movie based on the series a chance.

So how does the movie hold up? Eh, it was okay I guess. The animation reminds me of the Spongebob Squarepants movies where it's a little different from the TV show, and the cinematography is more traditionally cinematic, but it still captures the same spirit of the show's universe. Out of the six new songs featured in the film, at least half of them advance the plot in one way or another, and aren't there just to pad things out. Yes, you guessed it, the lyrics of all the songs are about friendship. The female villain pony has a decent amount of depth to her character, although she does have the generic scar over one eye that every villain seems to have these days.

This seems to be a movie designed for people already familiar with the series since little is done to develop the main six or establish the world of Equestria. Imagine the show didn't exist. You'd know almost nothing about the main characters or the film's universe. None of the characters really have an arc. With the exception of one character, no one changes or learns anything that they didn't already know at the beginning.

The dialogue in the show was fairly timeless, but the dialogue in the film is more modernized, which felt a little weird since its directed by a guy who's directed a bunch of other MLP stuff, so you'd think they'd try to keep things consistent. The cat character felt like a Puss In Boots ripoff at first, that is until he opened his mouth. I can't say I was expecting that voice to come from that character. I know the FIM universe has other nations with species other than ponies, but this still felt like a move to appeal to the furry demographic as well as the bronies. Why did the bird pirates still have all their pirate stuff on board their airship? They presumably got employed and their ship would have to fit regulations, right? The movie ends Zootopia-style with a pop song no one's gonna remember.

Since I compared this to the Spongebob movie earlier, one point I wanna bring up is that this movie doesn't have much of an emotional center. Now you may be wondering "what emotional scenes were in the Spongebob movie?". Well you watch the scene where Spongebob and Patrick are "dying" on the drying table in Shell City and tell me you don't get at least a little teary eyed! The best family movies are the ones with a certain level of emotional maturity and treat their audience like thinking adults. Half the MLP fan base is 25-year-old males. You might as well give them something more.

If you or your children are die hard fans of the franchise, go knock yourselves out. If this was surprisingly great like the LEGO movie, I would have no problem recommending it. Unfortunately, My Little Pony: The Movie doesn't offer much to entice the average moviegoer.
An entertaining movie, for Everyone(pony), new and old
After waiting almost 2 years to watch this movie and avoiding major spoilers for the last month, I must say that it matched my expectations.

It borrows the essence of the show MLP:FIM, enhances its aesthetics, musical score, and the result is an epic adventure with great songs and, of course, a lesson on friendship.

The plot, despite a little short (expected in a movie for kids), is played at a good pace (full of entertaining action, funny and emotional sequences).

To sum it up, if you're a fan of the show, you will love it (or at least, enjoy most of it).

If MLP:FIM is a new thing for you, give it a try and keep an open mind, ponies are full of surprises, specially the pink one ;)
This is personally one of my favorite animated movies of all time(a spoiler free review)
I honestly didn't had much of a problem with it All I can really say to start off with this review, it's that me and my Mom had a whole lot of fun with this movie. The plot may be a bit basic, but sometimes basic works, and that's the case with this movie. I enjoyed the story, I thought that the characters are very well written, the musical numbers are very catchy(I would recommend that you should watch the movie first before listening to them on their own, in case some may spoil the movie for you), and has really good animation like The Spongebob Squarepants Movie(2004), The Transformers The Movie(1986), The Simpsons Movie(2007), and other movies like those, where the animation looks like it is truly a theatrical version of the show it's based upon. This movie does a great job of being a really great representation of the show. The villains are a lot of fun, Tempest Shadow is a really great antagonist with a really intriguing backstory, Grubber is a funny comic relief sidekick villain, while the films's main antagonist, the Storm King is fun for who he is, and I personally think that the movie does a great job of making you have being a really fun villain that you really love to hate. In fact, the movie gives you something really satisfying moment in the climax. This is actually the first time I've ever seen a theatrical animated movie that has been done with Traditional Animation, since The Princess and The Frog(2009). My mother didn't had much to say, but she did admit that she had a lot of fun watching this movie with me. Overall I had a blast watching this movie, it was awesome to see some of my favorite ponies on the big silver screen, I'm going to give this movie a 9/10, and my Mom gave it a 8/10. If this review sparks your interest in watching this movie, I hope you'll have a great time watching this movie. I highly recommend this movie to any fan of the show, and a whole lot of kids. I hope you all enjoyed this review. But if anyone just so happens to disagree with me, that's perfectly fine. That's all for now. Until next time, see ya later alligator.
A fair view.
Warning. This review will contain a few spoilers.

Let's start with the good. This movie is an amazing work of animation and music/sound. The art style is neither better or worse than the parent TV show from witch it originated. They have both their unique styles and they are both done well. The animation on the other hand is a slight improvement and in some cases it's a real pleasure to look at. All the songs sound amazing and even the background music does a very good job of keeping you glued into the world of the movie until the very end. Both the new voices and the familiar ones from the TV show did a great job at giving the characters the personalities that any regular watcher of the TV show got used to. Now let's talk about the story. It is a hero's journey as the voice actress of Tempest said and i just love these stories when they are done well. And this one was almost perfect. There are so many things that the movie has done good and for this reason alone it is definitely worth watching. But sadly there are some misses too from my point of view so let's talk about them.

Here is the bad in my opinion. The magic portrayed in this movie is actually less powerful and also less varied compared to the TV show. In the TV show powerful ponies like Twilight could do a lot more spells like teleport, shoot stronger beams and even morph others or themselves into other creatures without the need to use artifacts like in the movie. In the movie it seems that ponies were severely downgraded both in terms of magic power and known spells and i can't help but scratch my head and ask why? I don't like this change but oh well...i can still hope that a sequel will show up in the future and do it better. The second criticism i have is the villain. How on earth did he get an army if he was so weak? He is actually the weakest villain from the G4 MLP world. I am disappointed in the movie for making him this weak and for missing the opportunity to have a proper climax for the ending of the movie. The TV show had a villain that did it way better. His name was Tirek. I am at least glad that the Storm King received his deserved punishment at the end. If you think that is too harsh then i am sorry. You really don't know how it feels to live under a tyrant. My parents know it and they told me in detail.

Final thoughts. It is not a perfect movie for a brony like me but i think that a regular viewer that never saw the original show might be able to enjoy it even more where i didn't because these criticisms that i have are strictly related to the lore of the MLP universe. I don't think a newcomer would have any problem with how strong are the ponies or the villain for that matter. It is an amazing movie and a visual/musical spectacle that you shouldn't miss. Enjoy.
Amazing animation with a side of originality on a established cartoon!
I have been a fan of the series for quite sometime now and a active community member since 2012. I have seen every episode with my kids and consider myself a snob to animations regarding this series. All I can say is... WOW. I knew that the crew had made the shift to ToonBOOM for the movie but I never expected it to be this... AWESOME! The animation was flawless, the presentation on point and the writing superb!

This is not the series we know as fans, this is Disney levels of quality in style and writing. The characters are very well fleshed out as well, and that villain... Finally we get a bad girl that is portrayed as more than a character with a grudge. I. Freaking. Love. HER!

Add to that I am a Tennesseeian and that The Nashville Scoring Orchestra did much of the scoring for this movie and you have a mix for a bit of bias. That being said, This series has always had amazing songs in it thanks in part by Daniel Ingram and this DID NOT DISAPPOINT! But bias aside, this is a movie that even parents can enjoy. It is cute, funny and well written. Sadly due to the adult community of fans, some of the 'trolls' that take joy in pick on them have decided to flood the internet with false reviews.

Seriously, go watch it! If you want something besides the typical Disney product with the same story line you have seen a million times, this movie is for you! This has to be one of the few cartoons out there with core values that is still GOOD! I rank this up there with The Secret of NIMH, My all time favorite movie as a child. You go DHX and Hasbro! Stellar job!
